Charter School
The new application for “Gillett Heritage Academy” is underway. The Gillett Civic Group held it’s first public meeting Monday February 8, 2010 at the FBC in Gillett. We have asked those interested to submit in writing their questions, concerns, suggestions, etc. to the Civic Group for review. You may drop that off at City Hall or you may mail your written responses to the Gillett Civic Group PO Box 116 Gillett, AR 72055.
We are in the process of forming committees and if you have a question or need information you may contact Jennifer Menard at 870-946-1664.
The next monthly Civic Group meeting will be held at P & M Bank Community Room at 6:30 on Thursday, February 18th.

Gillett Coon Supper 2010
The Gillett Civic Group announced it’s volunteer of the year award at the Gillett Coon Supper on January 8, 2010. Congratulations to Mr. Stephen Ringo, the recipient of this distinguished award.
Mr. Ringo is a member of First Baptist Church, the Farmers & Businessmen Club, the Post Club, the Civic Group & the Fire Department. He and his wife Lesa and son Jase are always willing to lend a helping hand and are a blessing to our community! Thank You - Stephen!
In addition, the Coon Supper was a tremendous success once again this year and the Civic Group volunteered it’s services to help organize the event. We enjoy working with the other organizations and it really pulls our community together! We would like to thank the Farmers & Businessmen for that opportunity.

The Gillett Civic Group participated in Christmas Past & Present 2009. And again, inspite of the rain it was a huge success!

CHRISTMAS PARADE!!!
The Civic Group would like to thank all those who participated and volunteered this year. Those interested in participating in next year’s Christmas Parade can download an entry form from this website or call Jennifer Lowe at 870-548-2541. The 2010 parade theme will be announced at a later date. There is no entry fee and we welcome all participants. For more information please call Sally Keffer at 870-830-6012. The line up begins at 10:15 am on Leslie Street.
SMOKED CHICKEN LUNCHEON!!!
We raised around $2,000 at our Smoked Chicken Luncheon this year! We appreciate those who attended and supported our group. And we certainly appreciate the volunteers who made the luncheon possible! Proceeds will benefit projects of the Civic Group such as City Banners, Clean up projects & the Heritage Days Festival to name a few.
FIREWORKS DISPLAY!!!
Fun for the whole family…Once again, we would like to thank Mr. Tony Berry and his crew for a spectacular display of lights that represented the dazzle of Christmas! We hope everyone enjoyed the show and we hope to see you there next year!
The R.A.V.E. Benefit Dinner & Auction
The Gillett Civic Group hosted The R.A.V.E. (Revitalize, Aspire, Visualize & Educate) Benefit Dinner & Auction on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Buckshot Lodge in Gillett.
The event was semi-formal and our guests dressed the part! Guests were seated at white linen tables with black toppers adorned with silver candelabras and glimmering decor. Guests were served by members of the Gillett Civic Group a delectable meal of pork tenderloin, smoked rice, broccoli salad, green beans, a role and for dessert…chocolate brownie with ice cream.
One of the highlights of the evening was the live auction conducted by Charles Hesser with ring men, Clay & Craig Richter. The event was a phenomenal success and was tremendously enjoyed by all who attended!
The proceeds will benefit various projects of the Gillett Civic Group. Some of the proceeds will be used for the “Christmas Past & Present” on December 12th, city banners, and the “Heritage Days Festival” next May.
“Striding to Succeed”
Saturday October 10, 2009 the Gillett Civic Group will host “Striding to Succeed” a 1k Fun Run/Walk. The entry fee will be $15.00 and will begin at 8:00 am at the Menard Heritage Park. Fun for the whole family!

Civic Group to Participate in Clean-Up
Saturday September 26, 2009 the Gillett Civic Group will participate in the Great Arkansas Clean-Up. We will focus our efforts on the entry streets and Main Street of Gillett. All members who are willing to participate please meet at the P & M Bank parking Lot at 8:00 am and we will split into groups.

The Gillett Civic Group has accepted the challenge of founding a new Open Enrollment Charter School. More than a challenge it is an honor and an excellent opportunity for us to fulfill our mission of ensuring the vitality of Gillett and stimulating economic growth and community development.

Gillett Civic Group Presents Fireworks Extravaganza
The Fireworks Extravaganza sponsored by the Gillett Civic Group on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at the Menard Heritage Park was enjoyed by all. The show started at 9:00 p.m. sharp and there were cars and people as far as you could see. We would like to thank everyone who made donations at the event. We would also like to thank Mr. Tony Berry and his crew for a spectacular show!!!

The Gillett Civic Group in conjunction with the City of Gillett held its 1st annual Heritage Days Festival. Kids enjoyed old fashioned pioneer activities provided by the Arkansas Post Museum. Other kids’ activities included a rock wall and a giant jumper all located at Menard Heritage Park.

The festival was a huge success even in the rain. We had around 500 - 600 people in attendance. We will be updating our entry forms so that we can begin taking entries for the various competitions much earlier next year.
